In week 2 of the McCoys Premier League Darts Phil Taylor stole the show in his victory against Kevin Painter.
After a slow start Taylor stepped on the gas in the 10th leg with a memorable 9 darter. With scores of 180 and 174 Taylor rounded of his 9 darter with a 147. This gave Taylor his 2nd victory in 2 weeks as he went on to defeat Painter 8-5. In victory Taylor had an average of 108.27. After the match Taylor was quoted as saying:
“I’m overwhelmed to have hit the nine-darter, Kevin was playing really well and I knew I had to do something extraordinary to crack him.
“I thought I would do a nine-darter earlier in the match but it came at the perfect time. It’s always the tough games that you do something like this because you’re not thinking about it.”
In other matches in Week 2 Scotland’s Gary Anderson claimed a comfortable 8-2 against Premier League debutant Andy Hamilton. Many were concerned for Hamilton when he was announced in the line up, however after his victory last week many thought he could cope with this pressure, however with this heavy defeat can Hamilton bounce back for next weeks match.
In the other 2 matches Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld claimed a very impressive 7 all draw with World Champion Adrian Lewis. At one stage Lewis led the match 5-2 but Barney stormed back to claim a draw. This result will surely be good news of all members of the Barney Army as well as Barney himself in the manner of his performance and come back.
The last match of the night saw Simon Whitlock seal a very impressive 8-4 victory over James Wade. Defeat for Wade saw hm drop to the bottom of the table after 2 weeks as he has failed to pick up a point. The victory for Whitlock sees him lead the league on leg difference from Phil Taylor with one victory and a draw. The loss for Wade could have been worse but for a late charge. Wade struggled with his doubles and this left him 7-0 down. Wade then won 4 legs but with only an 18% checkout rate he will know improvement will have to come in the coming weeks should he want to move up the league.
The McCoy’s Premier League Darts continues at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast next Thursday, with the matches including resurgent van Barneveld taking on Phil Taylor.
